In the world we use two kinds of resources being renewable which can be used unlimitedly and nonrenewable resources which once all of it is used up there is no more left in the world. Nonrenewable resources are resources that come from within the earth including coal, natural gases such as methane, and oil. Coal is one of the most commonly used non renewable resources as it is used to power 21% of the worlds commercial resources.
Renewable resources such as hydropower uses flowing water to power turbines and produce electricity. There can be hydro plants like Hoover dam which gathers water up to use as electricity. However both nonrenewable and renewable resources can harm the environment. For example, too much methane gas can cause the ozone layer to deplete and change our atmosphere over time, and dams can create sediment traps which can cause damage to ecosystems. Over time people are beginning to switch over to more renewable resources as the amount of oil left in the world is rapidly declining. Today scientists are still working on ways to help improve the eco-friendliness of dams and turbines.
